The Soundawn Story: From Pandemic Discovery to Healing Practice
When the pandemic hit, I was searching for something to ground me. Like so many of us, I was deeply affected by the uncertainty and isolation of lockdown. That's when I discovered sound healing—and it changed everything.
I started waking up during the dawn hours to practice, finding solace in those quiet, liminal moments between sleep and wakefulness, between darkness and light. There was something sacred about that space, something healing. As my own nervous system began to settle, I felt called to share this with others who were also struggling to find peace.
I started offering private sessions to friends, and something beautiful began to happen. People would come carrying their heaviness—grief, transition, uncertainty—and leave a little lighter. Word spread, and eventually I opened Soundawn Sound Bath Center to create a dedicated space for this work.
What Makes Soundawn Different
Every session we offer is deeply personalized. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all approaches to healing. Each person who walks through our door comes with their own unique energy, their own story. That's why every session starts with a check-in—first individually, then as a group. We listen. We attune. And then I craft a soundscape that meets your nervous system exactly where it is in that moment.
This personalized approach is at the heart of everything we do. Rather than playing a pre-recorded track or following a generic protocol, we read the room. We understand that someone coming in after a difficult week needs something different from someone celebrating a milestone. That awareness shapes the entire experience.
Our Signature Experience
Our one-hour immersive session is designed as a complete journey. We begin with breathwork to ground everyone, move into a full hour of sound bath, and close with a tarot reading if there's time and it feels right for the group. Whether you're coming to us in our Brooklyn or New Jersey studios, from your own home, or as part of a corporate wellness program, you'll receive the same intentional, personalized care.
The breathwork phase helps you transition from the busyness of your day into a state of receptivity. The sound bath itself—typically using singing bowls, gongs, and other resonant instruments—works directly with your nervous system to activate the parasympathetic response. That's the "rest and digest" mode your body desperately needs. The optional tarot reading at the end serves as a gentle integration tool, giving you something to reflect on as you move back into your week.
Why the Name Soundawn?
Soundawn captures both the literal and the metaphorical. It honors those early morning hours when I first discovered this practice, when the world was quiet and possibility felt endless. And it speaks to what we offer everyone who comes through our doors—an awakening. A transition from stress to softness. A return to yourself.
Dawn has always symbolized new beginnings. It's that magical threshold between night and day, between what was and what could be. That's exactly what we facilitate in a sound bath—a gentle awakening of your own healing capacity, a permission to step into a more regulated, peaceful version of yourself.
What Moves Us Most
Over these years, I've had the profound privilege of holding space for people during some of their most tender moments. Cancer patients finding calm before treatment. People grieving the loss of loved ones. New mothers navigating postpartum transitions. Those experiencing heartbreak, job changes, new relationships, endings, and beautiful new beginnings. Even the everyday celebrations of simply being alive.
What fills my heart most is knowing that I get to offer them a soundscape that allows their nervous systems to finally rest and soften during the moments when they need it most. That's the real work. That's what Soundawn is about.
There's no judgment here, no performance required. You don't have to look a certain way, believe a certain thing, or be at a particular stage of your healing journey. You just have to show up, and we'll meet you there.
Sound Bath as a Tool for Nervous System Regulation
The science behind sound healing is becoming increasingly recognized. Our nervous systems are constantly scanning the environment for threat. Sound bath creates a sonic environment that signals safety—low frequencies that ground us, rhythmic patterns that synchronize our brainwaves into a relaxed state, and the sheer immersion in sound that gives our anxious minds permission to finally rest.
In our increasingly overstimulated world, this matters. We're all carrying more tension than we realize—in our bodies, our nervous systems, our hearts. Sound bath is one of the most direct ways to access and release that tension.
